Top Skincare Trends for 2022
It’s so important to feel good in your own skin and protect your body’s largest organ. Here are some of the top skin care trends for 2022.
Less is more
People are scrutinizing what’s really in their skin care products more than ever before, looking for more natural, gentle ingredients and eliminating the need for too many products in their routines. When opting to repair and nourish your skin barrier, people are decreasing the use of exfoliating acids, and increasing the application of natural treatments and ointments.
Rise in Rollers
What exactly does facial massage and using a roller do for your skin? It turns out the benefits are numerous. Facial massage increases the circulation in the skin by stimulating blood flow to the face, which can make skin look brighter and feel firmer. This in turn may decrease puffiness, especially if you store your roller in the refrigerator or use a naturally cold stone like jade, it’ll cool the skin on contact. This can quickly de-puff your skin and tighten pores. Rollers may also be used to distribute skincare products such as an oil or moisturizer, to administer the product deeper into your skin.
SPF with Blue Light Protection
Blue light is part of the visible light spectrum. It is a type of high energy visible (HEV) light emitted from devices such as phones, tablets, computers, TVs, LED devices and fluorescent lights. "Preliminary research shows HEV can prompt the formation of free radicals, which break down collagen and cause inflammation, leading to redness, dark spots and wrinkles. Too much blue light may also darken hyperpigmentation, especially in darker skin tones," Deanne Mraz Robinson, president and co-founder of Modern Dermatology, explained.
Early evidence shows tinted sunscreens may block more visible light than non-tinted sunscreens.
Importance of Skin Barrier Repair
Collagen Revitalizing Crémes like this one from Reviva contain special peptides to help smooth the appearance of wrinkles, to help skin look and feel more youthful. A closer look at the ingredients helps consumers stay informed:
- Enteromorpha Compressa Extract is derived from green alga offering all the benefits found in algae and its natural skin conditioning benefits.
- Cocos Nucifera Fruit Extract (Coconut Water) is loaded with sugars, minerals, amino acids that offers vitalizing and energizing effects along with moisturizing.
- Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 (aka Syn-Coll™) a synthetic peptide designed to stimulate the skin’s natural mechanism to produce collagen. Manufacturer studies showed it helps protect and boost collagen and improve skin texture while also helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Salicyloyl Phytosphingosine is the salicylic acid derivate of native occurring phytosphingosine in human skin which has anti-inflammatory properties and skin conditioning benefits. Published studies have shown that when it’s “topically applied to the face, reduces the depth of wrinkles and improves skin texture in photoaged skin.”
- Bakuchiol is derived from the psoralea corylifolia plant, commonly known as babchi. This popular herb has long been used in both traditional Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine due to its ability to alleviate various skin conditions. This ancient herb has received a significant amount of scientific study which have deemed its empirical benefits verifiable. This vegan alternative to retinol appears to mimic the benefits of Vitamin A: preventing fine lines and wrinkles, and helping with pigmentation, elasticity, and firmness – without the periodic side effects of retinol.
