5 Ways to Make Your Home More Peaceful
Chances are you have a busy lifestyle! Your home needs to be a place for productivity, rest, relaxation, play, and more. It needs to nurture, restore, and revitalize us at the beginning, during, and end of our jam-packed days. Here are five ways to make your home more peaceful, so you can achieve your health and wellness goals right where you live.
Go green
Add a plant or some flowers to your kitchen, living room, bathroom, and home office to bring nature’s energy indoors. Aloe vera plants give off oxygen, and orchids and succulents are relatively low maintenance.
Take tech timeouts
Store your phone in another room to take a break from feeling tethered or trapped by emails, texts, and notifications. Try to avoid keeping a television in your bedroom, which has to be a place where you can sink in and relax. Limiting screen time for yourself and your family members is a healthy way to set a boundary and allows time for more creative, peaceful activities such as reading or creating artwork.
Add scents and sounds
Adding some candles, aromatherapy, and music to your nest will help create a sense of calm no matter how crazy the day. Selecting scents to remind you of pleasant memories can help to trigger positive thoughts. Somedays you may want to turn on a playlist to dance off the stressors of the day, while other days may call for something more tranquil. Whichever your mood, never underestimate the power of music on wellness. Research shows listening to music reduces anxiety, blood pressure, and pain as well as improves the quality of sleep, mood, mental alertness, and memory.
Clear clutter
We previously shared the benefits of tidying up; doing a reset once or twice a day will help. Tidying your house can reduce stress and provide other mental health benefits. In fact, studies have shown more chaotic, cluttered environments may create time management problems which cause other nerve-racking issues, and increase cortisol, a.k.a the stress hormone. Think about all of the different ways you can streamline your abode, from clothing to furniture, to technology to toys. If the item no longer serves you or your family, sell, donate, or discard it to create more space and a feeling of peacefulness.
Surround yourself with love
Whether it’s updating photos in frames, collecting special artwork, or displaying your favorite books, keeping the items you love in each room will help you find peace and tranquility. Look around the bedrooms and living room in your home and ensure you can identify at least one thing you absolutely love. As you feel a smile on your face, carry the sense of wellness and calm with you as you begin and end each day in your home.
